Day 2 in Nha Tranh...

Another very full on day.. The photos are in no particular order and I'll just do a memory dump now... Sonny is incredibly knowledgable about his countries history so I'll fill you in now on some of the things he's said..

This day we were picked up by motorcycle and our first stop was at the local aquarium.. But as he was mentioning much of what we saw was now endangered due to overfishing.. Seafood is now the leading export for Vietnam and with a population now exceeding 85 million they do not have any sustainability plans.. Many of the population is extrememly poor and living at a subsistence level.. Accordingly whatever is caught is eaten.. (more on eating later).. After the aquarium we went to a monument celebrating buddism in Vietnam... In 1963 a monk in defiance of the government who outlawed any religion (socialism only) set fire to himself.. (very famous image)... He had said to the monks that has he died, if he fell forward, then continue the struggle if he fell backwards then give up... He fell forward, and when they took his body for cremation, his heart was in a state of petrification.. Ie was in tact..this is now housed in HCMC... The monks continued and lead to a conversion of many Vietnamese to buddhism... (will finish this later I've been told to get out of the internet cafe... it's closing time... ) So will catch up later...
